DEN MJUKA VÄGEN

~~~~~~~DEN MJUKA VÄGEN~~~~~~~ DnD Int. i samarbete med PLX presenterar “Den Mjuka Vägen”. Den inledande utställningen på Per Weijersgatan 2 i Malmö. Melanie Wiksell (CY/SE) Luis Berríos-Negrón (PR) Helen Haskakis (SE) Alexander Höglund (SE) Richard Krantz (SE) Öppning 16 februari 17.00 - 23.00 Bar från 17.00 “I always thought that it was much better to smash down doors rather than waste time looking for the key, and through lack of calm and coolness, so fail to even find the keyhole. /.../ /……/ “It took me a good six months, /.../ of sensational and unchained brawls, alongside wise and erudite Katas, before I came, exhausted, tired and annoyed, to a final door that was too thick for me to break down. Finally, angrily, I took the key, that had been there all along, from one of the gently smiling old masters of the Kodokan, And I opened the door by quite simply turning the key in the lock.” Yves Klein - The foundation of Judo” (1952) *********** “All the natural movements of the soul are controlled by laws analogous to those of physical gravity. Grace is the only exception.” Simone Weil - Gravity and grace (1947) *********** Konstnärer Melanie Wiksell (CY/SE) Melanie arbetar främst med symboler och riter som traditionellt förknippas med döden, mörker, sorg och vemod. Dessa bryter hon ned och väver samman med egna erfarenheter för att i förlängningen ställa frågor om minnen, platser och den nordiska melankolin. Melanie belönades tidigare i år med ett stort stipendium från Stiftelsen Anna-Lisa Thomson, och var i samband med det aktuell i en grupputställning på Uppsala Konstmuseum. För Den Mjuka Vägen visar hon nya skulpturala verk i metall och hö, som i det karga utrymmet får en rumslig och kroppslig dimension. Luis Berríos-Negrón (PR) Luis konstnärliga praktik omfattar installationer, forskningsbaserad konst, performativa verk och föremål. Postkoloniala strukturer och föremåls betydelse i historieskrivning är centrala teman i Luis praktik. Till den mjuka vägen visar Luis mattor som skapats till verket “The flying carpet”. I utställningen ger mattvävning perspektiv om tidens gång, vikten av koncentration och handarbetets politiska och estetiska funktion. Luis är doktorand vid KTH och Institutionen för Konst vid Konstfack i Stockholm. Alexander Höglund (SE) I ett till utställningen färdigställt verk, “Once In The Loop (2018)”, visas stadens uppgång och fall synkront med naturens reträtt. Videoverket är skapat från ett stort antal teckningar som sammanförs i en cirkulär rörelse. Once In the Loop kan ses som en metafor för ekonomiska cykler såväl som årstidernas rörelse eller andningens rytm. Transcendering och cykliskt berättande är återkommanden teman i Alexanders verk. Musik av Francesca Burattelli. Richard Krantz (SE) I Richards praktik kombineras skulpturala installationer, teckning och konceptuella textbaserade verk. I grunden ligger ofta en känslig och drabbande humor. Återkommande teman är existentiella betänkanden och vardagliga paradoxer. Richard återkommer ofta till vikten av att praktisera konst som det essentiella framför verkens intention eller mening. Helen Haskakis (SE) Helen reflekterar över tidens gång i sina detaljerade målningar, att ge sig utrymme att arbeta långsamt, uppbyggande och med rum för övermålningar och förändring är centralt i hennes praktik. Att låta målningen växa fram blir en metod genom vilken Helen kan vara lyhörd inför det som vill berättas i bilden. Tempoärt bibliotek Utställningen rymmer också ett temporärt bibliotek, curerat av konstnärerna gemensamt tillsammans med Filip Mayer (SE). Biblioteket kontextualiserar och inkuderar egna tolkning av verken och utställningens avsikt. Här samlar vi böcker och andra källor som besökaren kan bläddra i och samtala kring. Riket Under kvällen serveras till utställningen särskilt framtagen mat skapat av kockarna på Riket, Ulf Redelius och Per Myrén. Efter utställningens slut vid 23.00 fortsätter vi på Riket, Erik Dahlbergsgatan 5, Davidshall. ENGLISH DnD Int in collaboration with PLX presents "Den mjuka vägen". The first exhibition at Per Weijersgatan 2 in Malmö. Melanie Wiksell (CY/SE) Luis Berrios-Negrón (PR) Helen Haskakis (SE) Alexander Höglund (SE) Richard Krantz (SE) Opening 16th February 17.00 - 23.00 Bar from 17.00 “I always thought that it was much better to smash down doors rather than waste time looking for the key, and through lack of calm and coolness, so fail to even find the keyhole. /.../ /……/ “It took me a good six months, /.../ of sensational and unchained brawls, alongside wise and erudite Katas, before I came, exhausted, tired and annoyed, to a final door that was too thick for me to break down. Grace is the only exception.” Simone Weil in “Gravity and grace” (1947). *********** Artists Melanie Wiksell (SE) Melanie works primarily with symbols and rites traditionally associated with death, sorrow and darkness. These are deconstructed and woven together with her own experiences in order to ask questions about memory, place and the nordic melancholia. Melanie was earlier this year awarded a large grant from the foundation of Anna-Lisa Thomson, and in conjunction with this was part of a group show at Uppsala Art Museum. For Den Mjuka Vägen, Melanie will show new sculptures made of hay and metal, which in the rugged space l possess a spatial, bodily dimension. Luis Berrios-Negrón (PR) Luis is a Puerto Rican artist doing installations, research-based art, performative works and objects. Post-colonial structures and the importance of objects in historical writings are central themes in his practice. For Den mjuka vägen, Luis displays 'flying carpet prototypes' created for the work-series Immediate Archaeologies. Here, carpet weaving provides perspectives on the passage of time, the importance of concentration and escape, and the political and aesthetic implications of art as research. Luis has exhibited in, among others, the Museum Archaeology of Bahia (2017), the Biennials of Art of Bahia (2014), and of Architecture of São Paulo (2013), in the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and Documenta (2012), and at Färgfabriken in Stockholm (2015) and at District in Berlin (2016). He is a PhD candidate in the Konstfack / KTH Art Technology Design Programme in Stockholm, and lives between Copenhagen and Berlin. Alexander Höglund (SE) "Once in The Loop (2018)”, depicts the rise and fall of the city synchronously with nature's retreat and regrowth. The video is created from a large number of drawings that are brought to life in a circular motion. “Once in The Loop” can be viewed as a metaphor for economic cycles, the movements of the seasons or the rhythm of one’s breathing. The work makes use of the analogue and tedious work of drawing combined with contemporary game engine tools.Transcendence and cyclical narratives are recurring themes in Alexander's work. Music by Francesca Burattelli. Richard Krantz (SE) Richard's practice combines sculptural installations, drawing and conceptual text-based works. Often, there is a sensitive and poignant humour. Recurring themes are existential questions and everyday paradoxes. Richard often returns to the essential importance of practicing art, rather than the purpose or meaning of a work. Helen Haskakis (SE) In Helens detailed paintings she reflects and contemplate the passing of time, often in relation to everyday themes and urban environments. She lets her paintings grow by adding layer on layer staying responsive to her surroundings and impulses. Helens practice is defined by slow and conentraded work in line with the thematics of Den Mjuka Vägen. Temporary library The exhibition also houses a temporary library, curated by the artists together with architect, curator and artist Filip Mayer (SE). The library contextualizes the works and incorporates its own interpretation of the exhibition's intention. Here we have collected books and other material that visitors can browse and discuss. Riket During the evening, prepared food cooked by the chefs at Riket, Ulf Redelius and Per Myrén is served to the exhibition. After the exhibition at 23.00, we will continue on the Riket, Erik Dahlbergsgatan 5, Davidshall.
